| Malba Residents Receive World-wide Culinary Award Malba residents Jose Perez and Andres Lugris, owners of Manhattan restaurant, El Faro, received an important award for the best Galician Cuisine in the world, outside Spain. The award is offered by the government of Galicia, one of the regions that constitute Spain, to those promoting the knowledge of Galician Cuisine around the world. It was an impressive awards ceremony, transmitted world-wide via TV. El Faro has been for many years a steady advertiser in The Malba News & Views. Many neighbors have enjoyed the traditional dishes from Galicia as well as other Spanish regions in their Greenwich Village location. El Faro, established in 1927 is the oldest Spanish restaurant in New York City. If you havent done so, you may like to try the Cocido Gallego (Galician Boiled Dinner), the most typical dish of the region or you may like to try one of the best Paellas (zafron rice with seafood and other meats), a most popular dish from Southern Spain. The awards ceremony took place in Galicia. Malba was honored by a delegation of personalities, including members of the Xunta de Galicia and the press, as well as a well known band of sixty bag pipers. |
